Council of Europe mapping

The Council of Europe’s Common European Framework has played an important role in developing the Inspiration syllabus and course design.

Inspiration 1-4 takes students from A1 to B2 level.

CEF features of Inspiration

  • Learner autonomy development, such as learning to learn and compensation strategies
  • Frequent self-assessment sections in the Student’s Book and the Workbook
  • Project work and other writing tasks which can contribute to a portfolio
  • A wide range of speaking tasks which meet the spoken functional requirements of the framework
  • The promotion of cross-cultural awareness through the Culture sections

PET mapping

Inspiration develops the four skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking needed for the PET exam. Levels 1-3 of Inspiration cover most of the PET syllabus although in a very few instances, an area is dealt with in Inspiration 4.

In addition, the Student’s Books and the Workbooks have many exercises that follow a similar format to questions in the PET exam. This document maps the PET syllabus to Inspiration. After completing Inspiration 3, we recommend students go on to use an exam-preparation course such as Ready for PET for specific exam practice.
