CEF & Portfolios

The Council of Europe’s Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEF) has played an important role in developing the Inspired syllabus and the overall course design. Inspired 1–4 will take students from A1 to B2 level.

CEF features of Inspired:

  • Learner Independence sections that include items such as learning to learn and compensation strategies
  • Unit-opener pages that introduce each topic, and highlight learning objectives
  • Frequent self-assessment sections in the Student’s Book and the Workbook
  • Project work and other writing tasks which can contribute to a Portfolio
  • Language Link features that look at the influence of other languages and cultures on English
  • A wide range of speaking tasks that meet the spoken functional requirements of the framework
  • The promotion of cross-cultural awareness through the Culture sections

Inspired Portfolios

The Inspired Portfolios are linked to the CEF, and contain valuable exercises that follow the topics of the Student’s Book. Building on the vocabulary and grammar structures presented throughout the course, the Portfolios also help students keep their own personal record of the work they do. The “can do” statements help students think about how they learn, and assess their own progress with self-assessment materials and checklist sections.
